Looking at a ELM327 cable.
Lots of hits from chinese sites.
Last time i looked mostly SCANTOOL, lot of busy people...
Wondering if theres a better one to get?
Going to look at LS1 controllers, maybe attempt a flash depending how the confidence goes :P

I've read a few posts around the place there was a couple of guys working on a way to use an ELM 327 to read/write to a flash ECM.
They seemed to think the chip had a read/write capability that wasn't being used.

Other than that I've had a look at EFILive and TPTuners.
Like most other people I'm looking for an option that doesn't need a license for every VIN thats flashed.
Any ideas suggestions???

Probably going to get an ELM327 cable anyway :) just wondering if the ones on EBay were reliable??

Tunercats/Jetsdt are one time buy and no license per car, tho tunercats is no longer being sold to new customers, its all jetdst now.

Jet DST is licensed per car - I think you get a 3 car license when you purchase the product.

Tunercat is the go for unlimited. It can still be purchased via moates with a roadrunner pcm package. Its a reasonably old app but it is still supported.

Elm is just an interface, you still need software to do the writing. And while that is possible, it does not yet exist.

Also, elms are based around a 5 mhz pic chip. While it can talk to the vehicle bus Its rather limited in what it can do compared to the more expensive cables.

I got a obdallinone from http://www.webpg.net/ but id look into scantool http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/pc-based/ mainly because they offer updates for their interface. That includes extra features that a normal ELM doesn't have through "AT" commands.

Thanks guys :)
Had a look at the suggestions...
The scantool setup has grown since the last time i looked, looked at the All_In_One before too...
Think i might go with the scantool option..

On the reflash - still looking......
Got a couple of things to look at.

I got a cheapy bluetooth from ebay (blue colored) works a treat and less than $50 also free software is at http://www.outilsobdfacile.com/ this is a French site, very comprehensive.
ELM327 can write, that's how you clear error codes. :comp:

Write is limited to packets of 8 bytes max. So to save confusion - it can request data and clear error codes, but it cant flash because 8 bytes is too short to get the process started.
