finally some progress!!

the other day went to my mates workshop, we worked out the smallest possible seat that would mean minimal head removal so as to avoid hitting water galleries, it seems that it worked :D

so this arvo picked up the head to blend the new seats into the ports then she'll be going back in tomorrow for final cutting of the seats and decking.

so this is how i got the head today as you can see nice new clean seats, but the underside of them was a bit square and stuck into the ports a bit.

don't ask me why the pictures have the brown tinge to them cause those bits are bright silver colour where i've blended the seats in ... anyways you get the idea

good progress today!! holidays are handy!!

ok firstly the pistons, this is what i started with originally ... these are ACL Race Series rebuild pistons the same ones they use in the HQ Race Cars. As you can see there is a 2.2 cc bowl in the top of them.

and this is after they went through the milling machine.... bare minimum removed to get them flat.

hopefully tomorrow i can get some of the pistons in the motor and measure exactly how much has to come off the top of the block then thats pretty much the end of the machining and it will be assembly time!!

also today i got the head done .... i think they said they took about 20 thou off it to get it to the CC's i wanted not too bad really. nice 3 angle valve seat job too

Hi

I know a number of people who ran in the Hq series.
They used a Porsche gudgeon pin to lighten the drive train mass.
Just some thing i can contribute.

A small groove with a bullnose tool between the first and second ring land. The guy who did this builds world champ jetsprint motors that at 5500-6000rpm are just burbling around the pit, the idea is the curved groove causes the air betwwen the rings to tumble to prevent ring 'flutter' plus anything that gets the fuel/air mix moving in the dead area from the top ring to the crown has gotta be good
Build it, Race it, Break/Bend it ; Repeat.

You've probably seen it before, but here's a good site for the old Holden six :-

Unverified info of course. Still, offseting the head and valves to unshroud the valves in the chamber makes a whole lot of sense ( with larger intake valves ).

been having a bit of a fiddle in my dyno simulator to see what sort of changes i can expect from converting this engine from petrol to methanol ....

note the actual power figures arn't necessarily accurate but its more a comparison between old setup and new setup.

i tell ya what, going off how this thing was in the gemini in the driveway prior to the changes i think its going to be quite a wild ride if it does actually achieve another 20-30% increase in HP..... :driving:

got the crank and cam in, aswell as some other little bits and pieces ... still waiting on my ARP rod bolts which is now being a bit of a pain and holding me up ....

in the mean time i have been removing carby fuel system bits and getting stuff ready for my new surge tank that will arrive shortly ... then i can start fitting that up if i'm still waiting for the bolts.

either way slow progress is still progress!
