Re: VP V6 Vacationer - Turbocharged Build
Did this a few years back with a mate on his VS ute.... kept all the heat out of the eng bay. Had a slight amount of lag but was very nice. he mad a quick mod to the boost pipe to the intake with a few fins giving a very nice cooling effect, not a nice as a intercooler but was good fun to play with all the same.

Nice idea, like a giant heat sink. What materials did you use? I'm using thin wall exhaust tubing as its a bit more robust than aluminum. Should have it up and running in the next few days.jacomms wrote:Did this a few years back with a mate on his VS ute.... kept all the heat out of the eng bay. Yeh same ....thin wall exhaust pipe ....as I said ..it worked very well ....oil return was the only issue at 1st as we were using the wrong type of electric pump.

Re: VP V6 Vacationer - Turbocharged Build
Good news, started it up last night for the first time. Not loud at all, got an oil leak though so fixing that up in next few days. Lesson learnt is that you must use a check valve on the oil feed line as it gravity feeds the turbo when the engine is off. Little oil scavenge pump works very well and pumps easily few meters back to engine.
Have some more pics up soon

station wagon version? thats crazy, its ruined now!
just thinking, anyone want mine when I retire it? I am pulling some bits out when I am done with it but I don't want to scrap it as its rare.

Re: VP V6 Vacationer - Turbocharged Build
Ordered an AEM wideband o2 kit, these are the details listed
Ideal AFR monitoring tool for EFI and carburated applications, and engine dynameters
Does not oscillate AFR reading like narrow band sensors
No laptop required for monitoring! Bosch sensor included
Accurate to 0.1 AFR Reads in AFR or Lambda via a switch in back of gauge housing
24 Color-coded LED display lights provide immediate reference to engine's air/fuel ratio
(AFR) or Lambda ratio Integrated three-digit display reveals AFR or Lambda in real time
User-programmable 0-5v analog output included for use with data loggers and virtually any engine management system
Serial data stream included for output of AFR (RS 232)

Re: VP V6 Vacationer - Turbocharged Build
Had it running, no oil leaks and sounds very unique. It has a nice whistle from the turbo on the down rev. Still need to make up some brackets for cooler piping and mount scavenge pump under the body. Don't really want to hit the streets until I get the wideband installed.Holden202T wrote:so keen to see how this type of setup goes!
