ecotec not in yet, will be running everything on a stand and have the car completed first, then have the ecotec dissembled and fully rebuilt with mild cam, ported heads ect... Just mild is all I am after. aim is 170-180kw at the flywheel, if more comes out then even better! but this will be off its head compared to the slow pre ecotec in it now.300kwv6 wrote:My cruise control and front power windows work smooth, car is in good shape and just hit 202,000km
my vacationer is up to 294,000 as of yesterday, will be well over 300,000 before xmas. the T5 in it has 485,000 already with no degradation that I have noticed.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

The ecotec's respond well to some breating mods. The T5 sounds healthy for that many km'svlad01 wrote:ecotec not in yet, will be running everything on a stand and have the car completed first, then have the ecotec dissembled and fully rebuilt with mild cam, ported heads ect... Off to Mallanats this weekend, and then back into the shed next week to spin some spanners. Should have some new photos to share.

yes they do those ecotecs. the T5 is quite worn, whines a fair bit in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 4th and 5th are quiet .
you have to granny shift 3rd and 4th when its cool or cold as its clashes something shocking due to worn syncros on those gears, once warm though I can plow through the gears like a dog box I am running teflon additive and the thinnest gear oil I could get locally, seems decent enough for such a high mileage box.
looking at getting it properly rebuilt, anyone know a T5 specialist in Vic?

Looks good I had always thought rear mount turbos to be a little out of the box, but after seeing a local mustang running solid 9s and quick 60' times it must work pretty well!

Wow! thats crazy, never seen a set up like this.
but what about keeping exhaust temps up for max turbo efficiency? I would imagine quite a bit of energy loss through heat loss on its way down from the engine to there.

Re: VP V6 Vacationer - Turbocharged Build
The key is to use cast manifolds, wrap the exhaust with heat wrap, keep the pipe size small and choose a smallish exhaust housing on turbo. I think it should spool pretty well. Will know in the next few weeks. Only get time after work or on the weekend to tinker.vlad01 wrote:Wow! thats crazy, never seen a set up like this.

If you have a few spare hours I found this to be a really good read, gave me lots of advice to follow

Re: VP V6 Vacationer - Turbocharged Build
my brother has a bigger exhaust housing on his turbo and its in the bay on a vp v6 and it starts to make boost about 1900rpm with a few exhaust leaks, so i reckon this think with the smaller housing should be pretty good there!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
