3F Carby Landcruiser Delco 808
Hi guys ive been reading quite a fair bit on the website through the conversion threads and found a heap of great information as I am new to playing with efi.
Im kind of getting a bit confused of which is the best way to go for my conversion hardware wise. As I would like to buy all the right gear the first time and not trial and error. So im kind of after a hardware list to buy.
As the topic says I have a 80 series landcruiser that runs a 3f carby engine with points distributor which is very similar to the old 202s with points. I want to convert it to efi for reliability and more power(turbo once its converted). I have just got a 808 ecu which i will be sending off to VL400 for the usb and nvram mods to be done. I have already started drawing my new intake manifold and exhaust manifold which ill fabricate at work.
So my questions are what is the best ignition system to get going on this? Everyone talks about camira ignition modules but i cant find any in our local wreckers. Is the bosch ignition module (BIM148) the same thing? Or would it be easier and better to use a MSD 6AL instead as I have a mate i can get one easily? And does the distributor still need modification if i use the 6AL?
Would you guys recommend using the standard 3f mechanical fuel pump to feed a surge tank (small chassis rail mounted) which then connects to efi pump to fuel rail then regulator and back to the surge tank. Apparently this has been done before.
Also injector size guys. I was looking at 60lb injectors but worried it might be overkill. I only every plan to run 8-10psi max on this car. Does anyone know which connector type is used on the VN commodore loom? Are they EV1?
Any info on the above would be really appreciated.
Cheers
Andrew

Re: 3F Carby Landcruiser Delco 808
is there a later model of your car that you can get an electronic dizzy from ? basically you need a dizzy or crank trigger to feed either camira (reluctor) or vn 8v (hall effect) ignition modules.
even if you use the MSD it still needs a crank trigger to talk to an ignition module of some type.
the injectors should be fine and from my experience with the Deka 80lbs, you can get them to flow small enough amounts for smooth idle and low rpm fuelling. the ones you want are EV1, EV6 is the newer plug.
I'd say the fuel pump in the car now should be ok for feeding the surge tank, but without knowing exactly what its specs are its hard to say for sure.

As for the camira modules, they are also available on a few other models, and notably some 2000ish daewoos.
See here for some examples:
http://www.injectacarb.com.au/daewoo-ci ... -p-43.html
http://www.injectacarb.com.au/holden-as ... -p-42.html
http://www.injectacarb.com.au/nissan-pu ... -p-41.html
if your wrecker has any daewoos of the right vintage and will let you take a look under the bonnet you should be able to find one. Essentially your looking for that shape, 2 pins on the top, and 2 in one bottom corner and 4 in the other. Ive also seen them on ebay for about $40ish, so dont pay too much.
Infact it might be your lucky day, this wasnt up when I looked last week!

N13 Pulsars and LD Astras also have the bits you need, they're a lot more common at wreckers than Camiras these days.

Re: 3F Carby Landcruiser Delco 808
Yep.
Just waiting on my intake / exhaust manifold gasket
To show up from covs to align flange and ports. It was
Supposed to be there today.
I'll draw injector bungs on the manifold once that's sorted
To double check the fuel rail length required then start
Making it.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
