Cheap Ecotecs ??? is it true ???

talking to my neighbour the other day and he tells me that when ecotecs where in production (n/a and s/c) holden made a shitload of spare motors assuming they would need them for failures .... not many failed so now holden has heaps of surplus
add to that they are now using alloytecs this lessens the need for the spare ecotecs so according to my neighbour you can buy a complete crate ecotec from holden :
n/a with loom and computer - $1000
s/c with loom and computer - $1500
can anyone confirm if this is in fact true or not ?
if it is i wish i had $3000 ......
