Diagnostic on VR V8 in VL

Hi, I'm having problems with getting an aldl cable to work with my vr v8 engine and ecu in my vl.

I went to the wreckers and got a 16 pin aldl plug from a vr. I've wired it up so pin 5 has ground, pin 6 goes to white/black wire at ecu, pin 9 goes to red/black wire at ecu and pin 16 has constant 12v.

I hooked the cable up to the computer. Installed drivers, opened tunerpro did the cable test thing that came back found and functioning, downloaded all the vr v8 adx files and tried them all, the problem I'm having is that tunerpro will say its connected but won't show me any true values on the dashboard.

A lot of them are at 0 or -40 when the ign is off on and car is running, there is no change in any of the values.

I then read somewhere I needed to connect pin 13 on the aldl connecter to the engine check light, which I did and it has made no difference. Any help would be great. I don't have a bcm if that makes any difference

check your echo settings, check that you still have the original ecu (someone may have swapped in a cheaper '808 which will run the engine but lacks internal aldl hardware), check what the memcal looks like, factory or otherwise.

If you dont have the right ecu and are lacking the aldl bits then you can retro fit one of VL400s products to restore it.

I have a genuine vr manual hsv 16192428 bfpm ecu and a retuned with a standard tune vr v8 manual memcal. What are my echo settings supposed to be, where do I find them?

Normally an ALDL interface has echo, but it does depend on the type of interface you have.

The setting can be found in the ADX config, on the toolbar there is a 'Configure ADX' button, tick/untick the RS232 echo button. There is more info here .. http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2223

And just to confirm, with no NVRAM installed you wont need to use the plugin that gets mentioned on these boards a fair bit.

Well I did try putting my vr hsv bfpm tune in, obviously it won't start as it has vats and I have no bcm, and it made no difference. I still couldn't get any values to change, even though the car was warm the temp stayed at 0 and the tps stayed at 0 even when I put my foot on the accelerator

Also just to clarify, do I need the cel hooked up to the diagnostic connector?

how many hz does it read in the status bar at the bottom? sounding more and more like it could be a wiring issue, though.

0hz as far as I know, no wiring issue, I only wired it up the other day, red/black on diag connector goes to red black I think it's a7 on ecu or something like that, constant 12v to orange/white wire pin 16 on diag connector, pin 5 to ground and pin 6 to white/black a8 on ecu
