Where to start on aldl recording

I am a newbie and have read so many posts that I have nightmares of being reprogramed for fuel injection. I don't even know if my car can be read or tuned and I am just wasting my time. I am trying to get some data recorded with TunnerPro from my 1989 Celebrity 4Cly to my laptop serial port. It has a 1227748 ECU running at 8190 baud. From reading the topics, I think I need a file to format the data read from the cable, correct? What would be recommended that would be closes to the format of this ECU?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Delcowizzid. I have converted it and now have a 70.adx file. In my travel's across the many great tuning worlds, I picked up a 748.xdf file that took a liking to me. I included it here just in case it can help someone. I will get out the cable tonight and see what I get. Thanks again and will let you know how it came out.

OK, not getting data.
Steps
1. set com1 on computer to match tuner rt
2. connected cable
3. ran test for valid interface and got ok.
4 loaded $70.adx
5. turn on key
6. hit connect to vehicle
never got connected.
tried turn off echo and still no connect. Am I missing a step? Maybe the cable is wrong since I made it myself? I put the layout I used. I had an electric engineer look before I warped it up.
Thanks guys for any help

Can you post the ADX your trying to use, an ADS normally does not convert over to a working ADX without some command changes.

The send command looks odd, its F0 95 01 7A. I dont know the US ECUs well but that is not a valid ALDL frame on our aussie ECUs. Can try F0 56 01 B9 which is valid on our ECUs.
You may need a 10k resistor on the ALDL port too, pin A (gnd) to pin B (diag request). On some early cars its not bi-directional data, so the send command is not even required.

I put a res across a and b. no go. I changed the start in adx file. no go. I took the res off and I restarted after each change. She will not talk to me. have you guys seen this before?

Tried to run newer computer but my trendnet s9 usb to db9 would not work. I thought maybe the ecu had changed. took a picture to be Shure.

Might need to ask on a US forum if anyone has a known to work definition. The guys over on
http://www.gearhead-efi.com/ can probably help out there. I dont know the actual command your going to use, or if all it takes is a 10k resistor for data to flow like most US vehicles of similar age.
