VN box into VR

Post by pungent »

Just need a confirmation if I'm correct or not.

Putting a VN auto box into a VR with auto computer.

Was running a manual so have all the auto stuff disabled.
If I just run gearbox power, tc lockup and Trans temp from ecu and only re enable them in the tune that should cover the running of the box?

im not sure if the vr pcm detects auto/manual like the older ones do, if it doesn't you probably wont get TCC working, also you will have issues with the speed sensor, i believe you'll need to fit a vr auto extension housing and sender etc ....

Thanks mate, speedo extension housing etc i guess should be a straight bolt up?

Is there a way I can tell if my pcm detects auto/manual?

The only other output in the ecu wiring apart from the TCC on-off is 3-4th gear TCC on-off.
everything else is for the gears etc etc.

there is a toothed gear pressed onto the output shaft of the VR box, you'll need that if you change the extension housing, but other than that yeah should be a straight swap.

The VR auto PCM does not have a single input to detect p/n like the '808 does so should be able to get it working but will need some cal playing.

There will be a few flags and items to modify to get it to work too. Some that I can quickly see are...
Flag "TCC - Some PK/NT SW Posits Turn Off TCC" will let it ignore the range inputs that normally prevent the TCC in 1st and second
Flag "TCC - TCC OFF For Cold Trans" will stop it looking at trans temp.
Flags "TCC - Down Shift Turns Off TCC" and "TCC - Upshift Turns Off TCC" as it wont be controlling shifts

The only thing I can see being a possible problem is you might need to get it to force 3rd gear through a malfunction. The TCC tables are mostly for 2nd 3rd and 4th gear but the PCM wont know what gear it is in now. Will just have to try it and see what happens!

Ok, thanks everyone.
Change speed sensor etc and stick to my original plan for gearbox wiring and see what happens lol.

I'll give some feedback once I get it running again :-)

Wouldant it be a lot easier to just use the early 808 and harness.
Speed sensor feeds the spedo and ecm.
Just my thoughts

Not when the current harness has been chopped and modified cause I have moved fuse box and all wiring under the dash.
Also I use efi live with an obd2 connector which earlier wiring don't have.
In saying that though the thought has crossed my mind a few times lol.

Got the car running and so far so good.

Haven't hooked Speedo up yet but have the power to the auto and the tcc hooked to ecu.

Turned the tcc and the tcc fail on in the tune and after about 50km of driving no error codes.

Now having auto back in makes me wonder why I ever went back to a manual lol..
