v8 turbo build

Post by vlt304 »

hi everyone this is my vl v8 turbo. I made the manifolds out of 5mm thick wall steam pipe it has a delco 808 realtime mods thanks to vl400 and bosch 42lb injectors warlbro intank pump. 300x600 cooler ebay gt45r turbo t4 split pulse rear housing and the manifolds are split pulse design and now ceramic coated. im running a poor old t5 gearbox and it seems to be standing up ok for now I will post up a log soon and some pics of the astra electric power steering pump im using the trw 3 wire type. the engine is unopened and from what I can tell dead stock.

nice idea on the astra electric steering pump! cleans up the engine bay a lot. turbo setup looks really neat, bit of restriciton gone with that neck chopped off the manifold. looks very squishy in there to do the exhaust manifolds and dump. id be very interested to see what kind of power figures you get.

I wouldnt expect the T5 to last long. the first bit of decent traciton you get in 3rd gear and itll be gone... a couple of mates have killed their T5's in boosted commodores.

Great well thought out set up! Are you doing a remote oil filter? Seems like stock location may get a tad warm but other than that it's banger!

thanks guys it has taken some time and thought to make it fit and for those interested in the astra pump it is from a ts 2003 TRW type they have 2 big wires a red and a brown red goes to battery pos with a big fuse I use a 40amp circuit breaker black goes to battery neg then in a sepreate harness with 3 small (ecu size) 1 goes to OBD port for diag 1 goes to ignition switched 12v and the other goes to the battery light wire on the alternator to tell the pump the engine is running I have this connected to the switched 12v supply so the pump can run with the engine off. these wires vary in coulour depending on part number of the pump. it draws 6 amps when the pump is running but not loaded turning from lock to lock with the car stationary the draw is around 28amps driving I only see a 12amp draw maximum steering feels the same as it did with the mechanical pump.

nice! I used to have an astra with the elec steering pump.. from memory I used to be able to start it then stall with the clutch in gear and the pump would keep running. could hear it wind up like a turbo spool when you touched the wheel.

Out of interest, does the pump have a stand alone electronic pressure control unit to regulate pressure or is it electric/ mechanical like simple solenoid circuit?
