Can you reprogram the tach in a V6 cluster to work with a V8 PCM output?
I have a 92 k1500, I swapped in an 03 LQ4 and used the 03 harness and PCM. I am working on setting up the instrument cluster. I picked up a cluster from an 06 v6 silverado for cheap. I have it connected and have everything running except for the tach is off (big suprise). I am wondering if i can reprogram the cluster to work with the V8 tach signal???

I think so? I recall you change some resistor values? I haven't done it before. Hopefully one of the others that might know will chime in.
Reading your post again, whats a silverado? 06? might not be simple as a resistor I am thinking.

Sorry, The silverado I pulled the cluster is from is a 1/2 ton pickup. It was a 2006 4.3l V6. The PCM I am running it with is an '03 for an LQ4 6.0 V8. There is a line coming from the PCM to the cluster specifically for the tach. Its fed by C2 connector Pin 10. I believe the V8 is 4 pulses per rev while the V6 is 3 pulses per rev? Tach reads about 1k when motor is revving 7-800.

not sure about reprogramming the cluster itself, but ive seen a bloke use a 4cyl tacho on a v6 by putting a speedo corrector inline and adjusting to suit

I know the VN-VS clusters can be changed from 6 to 8 cyl with a small modification to the PCB, can you post a photo or two of your cluster's board?
