16 Pin OBD Pinouts
16 Pin OBD Pinouts
I've had a look and there doesn't seem to any info on what pins connect to what from the diag conx.
The engine data line Pin9, enable Pin6, GND Pin5 and power Pin16 are all there.
The info I'm looking for is the other pins.
I have a conx out of a VS with Pins 1, 5, 6, 9, 12, 13, 16 populated.
Any ideas on what they connect to, I'm assuming its ABS, SRS Traction and things like that.

Re: 16 Pin OBD Pinouts
I will look up tonight. I have the Holden wiring book for VR commodore. It is abs bcm srs etc but I will confirm each pin for you.
Re: 16 Pin OBD Pinouts
Here's a pic if it's unreadable I can post the pin numbers and there source.

Re: 16 Pin OBD Pinouts
Picture isn't displaying on my end.
I'm interested in seeing the pins as well as I'm looking at a gas module with optional OBD connection. It's European so guessing it's not going to be applicable to a VS OBD.

Re: 16 Pin OBD Pinouts
Yeah Dylan same here no pic.
Helical - i dont think holden was OBDII compliant until VX which had a bare bones system with the VY a bit more compliant.
The VZ was the first fully OBDII vehicle as far as i know at present.
The info is more of a curiosity thing at the moment.
Playing around with a ELM327 system and had an old VS connector laying around, the pins in the connector didn't match the OBDII protocols.
Now I'm wondering if there was a pin protocol at Holden for their onboard systems, ABS, SRS, body conroller and such?

That's my understanding too, but beyond knowing there is an OBD 1 and 2 I'm in the dark. Iv'e always been curious what the other populated pins were for as I only know the two for diagnostic.

Sorry boys I will get back to it tonight.

Re: 16 Pin OBD Pinouts
I have the paper VR diagram, sounds like Dylan might be have that one covered though if not can scan it. Earlier models had a few test functions like fuel pump.
From the wiring diagram section these two are covered. There might be other pins populated but need to check some other diagrams later.
On a VY..
Pin 2 = OBDII VPW on the V8
Pin 4 = Vehicle Ground
Pin 5 = Signal Ground
Pin 9 = ALDL
Pin 12 = ABS Diag Enable
Pin 16 = Const +12V
On a VT..
Pin 1 = Secondary ALDL Bus with Instrument cluster, ABS and ECC (BCM controls linking the bus to the primary)
Pin 5 = Signal Ground
Pin 6 = PCM Diag Enable
Pin 9 = Primary ALDL
Pin 12 = ABS Diag Enable
Pin 16 = Const +12V

Re: 16 Pin OBD Pinouts
Heres a scan from the VR Commodore wiring manual. Pin 16 is a bit cut off due to the size of the manual and myA4 scanner.
But its battery feed.
