Okay, so I'm not sure what you mean... So the coolant flows into the manifold from that pipe, where does it flow to? (S1 manifold)

If you look at a s2 gasket the middle and front holes are tiny while the 2 rear holes are much bigger. So this forces most of the flow to the back and up into the rear of the head where it makes its way back to the front.
VN s1 had more or less even sized holes as the flow from pump to stat is already diagonal. if they were like the lter gaskets in this config the front part of the heads will get too hot while directly below in the block will be too cold.
S1 note pretty much all the same coolant hole sizes. Front is >

I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Not quiet, the coolant enters the engine via the water pump which pushes it into the block, up into the heads and then to the thermostat housing. As Vlad mentioned in the VP engine the coolant flows mostly through the block from the front to the back, then up into the heads and back to the front of the engine to the thermostat. When the thermostat is closed the coolant flows straight back into the water pump via that hose. This allows the same coolant to circulate through the engine meaning it heats up quickly then as the coolant nears operating temp the thermostat starts to open allowing some hot coolant to start flowing to the radiator and cool coolant to enter the engine. Once the engine is at operating temp the majority of the coolant will flow from the thermostat to the radiator and then back into the engine with only a small amount going via that bypass hose.TdracerTd wrote:Okay, so I'm not sure what you mean... The series one engine is a little different becausse the thermostat is at the back of the engine so coolant only has to flow in one direction. The passage underneath the intake manifold serves as the bypass that allows that coolant to flow back to the water pump when the thermostat is closed.

I get it, so as long as all the coolant flowing from the block into the heads (front and back) can flow to the stat and the get sucked up by that bypass port, all is good. I don't plan to run the stat in the stock location.

Yep, fairly much as long as you maintain a flow path when the thermostat is closed all is good.
