VT Super 6 Ignition Coils

Post by Dylan »

Doing some googling tonight and found some people have fitted the VT Super 6 ignition coils to previous models or non super charged engines.
I found that they are a different part number.

Anyone have any info on weather there's an increased ouput or any real difference?
Anyone changed out a stock set for these?

Heard to many bad things about MSD coils for these but looking around at upgrades for a mate.

talked to quite a few people about it, same item different part number for logistics.

done ruff checks with a scope and peaks are not any higher than standards.

A worthy upgrade maybe VL400's LSX coil driver, not sure if it's still being sold or not.

its not the full module, just a converter to run ls1 coils straight off the DIS as the trigger signal for an ls1 coil is inverted or something....

im running one on a turbo v6 with 6x ls2 coils (modified the dwell time in 11P so they dont overheat) - works great.

Thanks for the link i had forgotten about that.
Could those dwell settings be compatible with the 12P control?
If it works on LS1 coils id assume LS2 would be compatible?

Most LS2 coils work, there are some with exposed heatsinks from US trucks that are meant to fire early if over 8ms or so of dwell is commanded (which the delco DFI would do while cranking) but delcowizzid didnt have a problem.

11P and 12P both have dwell settings that can be adjusted to suit the coil type.

Would look nice with one of these mounts.

There's a set of 8 on gumtree for $110 if anyones interested that sounds like a good price.
