Ive heard a lot about the VZ Alloytec with failing ECU's giving alarms on the dash.
I once had one that wouldn't start had fuel gauge error contact dealer, service vehicle soon all that.

Today I test drove a VZ Crewman 6 speed manual LS1.
Fuel gauge needle was moving around smoothly between half and full.
Then while driving went to empty and warning come up fuel gauge error contact dealer soon.

Another thing possibly related was the battery was flat before the drive and twice before this alarm came up i went to start and nothing happened. Key off back on and away it went.

I know these are common problems on Alloytec but thought the V8 was ok.

Anyone know much about this?

on the V8s you can get fuel gauge issues if the PCM segment doesn't match the IPC (dash). There are a handful of cals depending on whats happened with the car.

Ok thanks, can you explain fit a bit more for me in not ejukated on these late model systems. Is it a matter of flashing a different cal to the ecu?

Has the engine computer been changed or tuned at anytime?

If it doesn't match the vehicle's setup I guess it could cause issues.

Im guessing it's all original. Definetly not tuned by the feel of it.

I've replace a few failed ones with the same symptoms, the last two only occurred after a front end collision (that had been repaired). I've still got one that we use for testing.

You mean ecu? Or cluster?

I usually start with the VIN in TIS2WEB and see what the segment id's are. Usually its pretty obvious straight away that the segment is wrong as the gauge is completely wrong. I think the revision was to address inaccurate readings down low. Perhaps the car you're looking at hasn't been updated?

By that you mean a newer calibration written to the ecu?

yeah it may be or it might not have updated at the dealer. Yeah they write a new cal into the ECU. The Calid ID number is changed. GOing off what your description is tho it may be a remote chance its that.
