ALDL ECU's

Soooo, Its time to give the old tech2 a hard workout. And start pulling all engine/trans information from different ECU's.

Im looking into grabbing one of each ecu for VS,VT,VX,VY. But, just need to double check if there are any ecus between the models that are the same or if Im missing anything.

From what I understand, I will need the following ECU's:
-VS V6
-VS V8
-VS S/C (is this the same as V6?)

-VT V6
-VT 5L V8

-VX V6 (Same as VY and VU I assume?)
-VX/VY S/C

Am I missing anything, or do any use the same ecu/definitions?

VS are tech1, VT up are tech2

A VT V6 PCM will work with V8 tune as well. VX/VY Flash pcm can be flashed to either and work. Supercharged VX/VY Can be used on the VT PCM.

So in effect you only need a VT and a Flash pcm.

Just a note incase anyone tries running vt v6 ecu in by v8 there's injector drivers missing it won't run like a v8 ecu

I saw a VS in the Tech2 screen.. down in the 199X period. Its one of those years! Hence why I figured Id give it a go on those too. (Let me just double check that...)
Yeah, 1998 has a VS and VT choice. The VS also only has a choice of the VS V8.
So is the VS V6 and VS V8 aldl responses the same?

Iv got my own VY for a flash ecu I guess then. So then all I need is a VT V6 ecu. And maybe a VS one?
What Im after is pulling all the mode 1 tables then simulating to the tech2. So what I need to know is which ecus output the same messages or which dont. Eg, Id assume all flash VX,VY,VU ecus will put out the same mode1 responses on all frames? Well, at least for main engine data requirements.

Same with the VT V6, and VT 5L ecu, do both output the same aldl frames for mode 1 requests?

The tech2 is normally picky about this. Infact, even if attempting to send back responses of a different ecu, it might check the identifier and reject the ecu as "wrong car type".

VS v8 series 3 uses a vt style pcm so would be tech2.

Grab the current adx files for various models, all the mode 1 engine and trans messages are defined for the models you are interested in. The freeze frame and tech2 cal frames havnt been defined but you may be able to do something with them.

Ah right! Cool didnt know that. So that means the VS V8 prior to S3 requires a different adx then.

Tech2 normally wants other frames that I dont think the adx files will have defined. Generally tries to grab all calibration numbers and such when first entering into the engine section. It will simply error out without them.

Alright, so ill tick VS off the list. Hopefully if I just pick up a VT V6 and use my VY values, Ill be able to get into most engine data menus.

I figured there might be some stuff that might not have been figured out or defined, generally the tech2 has a few little bits and pieces no-ones come across yet. Like sussing out the freeze frame stuff.

Can someone let me know if Im wrong here. Based on the current adx files, they are:

VR $11 = VS and VR V8 auto ?? (VS/VR V8 and VR V6?)
VR $12 = VR Manual

$51 VS V6 Engine and Trans v1.11 WB Innovate.adx = VS V6 (Auto, manual, S/C)

VT_$A6_v1.01.zip = VT V8 5L and Series3 VS V8
A5 Engine and trans TP5 v105.adx = VT V6 and VX/VT S/C?

VX Engine and trans TP5 V104 yoda69 edition.adx = VU,VX,VY V6.

Is that right?

Series 3 V8 VS i think got VT BCM etc, though PCM's are simliar they are different and either code will not swap, can't run a VT in VS or VS in VT. Series 3 is MAF and Series 1 & 2 are MAP which use the 424 pcm for autos same as VR 6 & 8 cyl autos

So id expect the VS V8 option in tech2 to be for BCM?

Yeah, thats kina what Im getting at.
Simply trying to work out which ECU's use the same table responses. As in, I should be able to simulate my VY V6 responses into the VX/VU V6 mennus. As they should be the same.

Id assume from what youv said. The VS V8 option (Its definitely under Engine.. no BCM option there) is for a VS S3 V8.. which is the same as the VT V8 (VT A6)

I think the BCM is a point though. You might need the right BCMs on the bus to get the tech2 to start talking. It'll probably listen for heartbeat before talking to the pcm and then fail if its not found.
