key phrase there being 'for life' which no longer means human lifetime, but more like 150-200,000ish ks. throw away cars these days, cant make them too good, or nobody will buy new cars if their old one never dies :P

Ain't that the truth....

It's definitely true with the equipment at work and the manufacturer has said as much because customers aren't willing to pay the extra premium to have parts manufactured from higher quality materials.

its not like the materials dont exist to make things long lasting either.... my families farm has an old diesel pump from the 50's been out in the weather next to a dam since brand new. its got light surface rust now and you occasionally need to go and unjam the injector throttle /pump assembly but it still goes and has never been rebuilt! imagine leaving a modern engine out in the weather for 65 years. metal is made to corrode and wear out these days.....
