actually 2 years ago was best time, the most parts were available and for nothing. its about 2/3 of the range left from 2-3 years ago and prices came up some 10-30% but still cheap. For eg, a nos door trim you could buy for 35 bucks 3 years ago, now door trims are not common at all for these models and usually 100 bucks going price if you see one, 100 bucks is still cheap though if you consider what NOS VN-VS is bringing.
I got a nos VT front bumper by accident lol. suppose to be a VP one but rare spares happen and wrong part.

The stuff I find is practically throw away, although that said VSH not NOS stuff.
A NOS VX Berlina/Calais front bar would be worth a mint. Trying to find one of those in H154 Quicksilver is bordering unobtainium.

Not alot of car work done today. Mower work on the other hand, was a win. Dad rings me and says the mower won't go. I thought, hmm, usual Briggs and Stratton, probably carb. Went round with aerostart ; found it backfiring out the carb. The timing is out, how the fuck is that even possible?
This is how
The crank pulley is alloy, however, its tapered and has a sleeve pressed into it as an alloy keyway would last about 2 seconds in a mower. If this was an engine in a road going car that would be a new harmonic balancer/pulley time.
Literally sheared in half!
I've never seen a Briggs do this. Dad tells me he did take the 'flywheel' off to change the oil and says when he put it back on he didn't think it went on right and it hit the side of the frame. I think thats how it sheared TBH.
Interesting learning thats for sure.
Moral of the story, so if you have a Briggs which sometimes wants to start then seems like its 180 out and backfires out the carb, check the keyway hasn't sheared.

Had this happen a few times before, less times than one blowing up though. so at least statistically speaking the key is stronger than the engine. yep, POS Briggs engines.

so i picked up a bonnet in H154 this morning
note the use of the enhanced bonnet strut ; me and my son were installing it and my wife thought that the practical application of garden tools was funny.
interesting, is the striker adjustable in the bonnet?
because the VT has had a hit in the front, it doesn't line up any more ie: the striker is about 10mm forward of where the hole is!
anyone know?

in other news changed the oil in the wifes car. came out clean, is a good unit. then cleaned the car as it was a pig sty. come to the conclusion i clean more than her.
found coolant weeping from the top thermostat housing so nipped that up a bit. gave the engine bay a bit of a clean.
still have that clunk to sort out and change engine mounts. looking forward to that job NOT.
