Here's an 808 for $30 delivered: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VN-P-Commodo ... 2328892905 (no memcal though).
Then just add an NVRAM and USB comms board.

So if I were to purchase that computer, would I need to get a memcal, or does the NVRAM and USB comms boars replace that?
Apologies for my ignorance, this world is totally foreign to me, but I'm working on it.

Cheers!

NVRAM replaces the memcal.
The comms board effectively adds a USB port to the ECU so you can plug in a laptop with Tuner Pro (or an android phone/tablet using ALDLDroid).

With a non-NVRAM memcal, the USB board will let you datalog and read the bin, but when used in conjunction with the NVRAM you can do all that plus write to the bin too (i.e. real-time tuning).

You'll need to solder the comms board inside the ECU, plus solder one wire for the NVRAM. It's not rocket surgery, but you will need basic soldering skills and a reasonably fine tipped soldering iron.

Sounds like the go then.
I'll purchase the computer today.
Who sells the NVRAM and USB comms board?
I can solder, no problems!

I think the1 is the man to see. The coms board will also allow you to do the 8125 baud logging needed for the live tuning.

I see.
Also, shall I get a wide band o2 sensor, or is the standard on the commodore came with ok to use?

A wideband O2 sensor is well worth the money. I like the 14point7.com widebands, but there's a few brands to choose from.

I think it's impossible to tune without a wideband setup and you can connect it to the Holden ECU and log it with TunerPro.

Sweet, so it looks like I've got it all together.
One more thing, is there a basic tune that I can download to fire up the engine initially?

The generic v8 bin in the 12P zip file should get you up and running.
If you're running non-standard injectors you'll need to adjust that, but otherwise it should be a good enough starting point.

Otherwise, have a look through the custom bin thread (https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewt ... ?f=7&t=375) and see if someone has already posted a bin that better matches your engine setup.

Do you have access to an eprom programmer?
