VS Commodore V6 Low Speed Fan ?

What is with the Low Speed Fan side of things in a VS V6 Commodore ? I don't think I have ever seen it in operation on any of the VR-VS's I have seen.
Mine, if the Air Cond is off & the car is parked up idling, will just raise the coolant temp on the dash gauge until about the 3/4 mark. In TunerPro logging it shows that to be around 106+ degrees before the single fan kicks into life at what seems a High Speed fan setting. Then the fan shuts off at around 96 degrees which is about 1/2 way on the dash gauge.
When driving & getting plenty of airflow over the radiator is sits at 1/8th on gauge or 82 - 84 degrees. I would have thought the coolant should be brought back down closer to the low 80's mark before the fan shuts off.
How does or should the Low Speed Fan side of it be working ?
Cheers

Factory fan temps
Low speed on 104 and off 100
High speed on 109 and off 105
The low speed on a vs is controlled by the bcm so while logging only the high speed will work due to bcm chatter been silenced.
To test the fan speeds disconect the cts and start the car, the first speed will come on straight away and due to the delay the second speed should come on 6 seconds later.
Going by your driving temps I take it your running a lower temp thermostat? If so I would drop your fan temps down so there's not such a big difference.
By the way vr only has single speed.
Cheers.

yep.... and people wonder why ecotecs crack heads.... stuck in traffic, 104 deg.... start driving... 90 deg (thermostat temp) every single ecotec I do a memcal for, first thing is always drop the fan temps!.. alloytec is the same.... doesnt turn on fan1 until its over 100deg... problem is on alloytec there is no fan temp settings in hptuners

Scary really, that's a lot of heat and it's easier to heat it up than it is to cool it down. You may pull the coolant temps down fairly quickly but all the other stuff in the bay is still bloody hot
I do the same, drop the thermo fan temps into the 90's and into the 80's if a cooler thermostat is fitted.

yeah my cruze is the same, it actually runs at 102-104 degrees!

Why does the factory like to run the temps so high?

I believe it's supposed to help with reducing emissions. Hot fuel atomises better for a better more complete burn but down down side is reduced air density. That's what I remember vaguely anyway.

yeah pretty much!
I can first hand vouch for the difference, when I put the ecotec in the torana I put a 80 degree thermostat in it, and it worked ok, I eventually put a 94 or whatever the original was in it to help the heater in winter and it had a noticeable improvement on fuel economy!

I suppose a more modern type fuel injector with better spray pattern/atomisation would help too
