to all you speedway people out there running methanol whats the best heat range for ngk spark plugs for use with methanol ?

the car is running fine with the stock plugs but i have been told its better to go to a slightly different heat range for methanol ?

this is in a holden 6 engine if it matters.

I havent used methanol but I have ran E85 a number of times. For N/A I did use the stock plugs and with forced induction, cooler plugs. I would imagine the stock plug will be fine

If I were you, I wouldnt bother with methanol. I would use E85. Its stoich isnt too bad and reviewing my tunes, you use 31% more fuel with E85 on top of normal fuel. There is so few places which sell E85 sadly. There is one servo in Adelaide only. I ran it in my VX which runs a single turbo. I used it for a few months but was put off when the E85 pump was fucked one day so I went back to premium100 fuel.

As a power difference comparison, I tuned my car on premium100 which is a good fuel to start with. My car is a VX with the stock LS1 and stock auto trans. The car made 396rwkw on 13.0psi. After I tuned it on E85 it made 424rwkw on 12psi. I have also ran R85 in NA format but I have never dynoed the car to compare results between fuels. At 99c a litre E85 is unbelievable fuel. It smells killer also.

well i don't know of any E85 outlets at all near me so its alot easier to get methanol (doesn't make sense hey) i would prefer to use e85 for its benefits v's methanol but until theres one or two pumps locally its just not viable!

sounds like you get a reasonable increase from 100 octane to e85 and i have no doubt the 100 octane stuff is mostly likely over $1.50 ?

You can buy drums of E85 but it works out to be close to 2.50 a litre. It is better than the pump stuff as its blended with 15% 98RON fuel but it is expensive. Premium100 is about $1.30-$1.50 a litre but a fair few places do sell it. I will run E85 again soon as I am putting a bigger turbo on shortly. What do you use your car for?

at the moment nothing :D its a work in progress drag car, gemini with a holden 6 jammed in it running on methanol with delco injection.

it's never going to see the road so methanol is a good option for me!

I've always used NGK BP6EFS or BP7EFS plugs with a 12 port Holden 6 on alci. If it's a pig to start cold, start it with a hotter plug eg.BP5EFS then when it's warm change to the 6's or 7's.
