I know there are a few Holden Tech's around the site and have a question. I am looking (only at this stage) at upgrading my tow vehicle and like the Dmax and Colorado. I know they have different engines and transmissions so any feedback on plus and minus for each will be most appreciated.

I have both in my family, service and maintain many for customers as well, the Isuzu's are powerful and utilitarian, the Coloardo's are comfortable and doughy, either make a great tow vehicle. Both return pretty good fuel cons.

I do like the dmax and mu x. A mate of mine bought the mu x last year and has been really happy with it. I havnt got any hands on with the colorardo for comparison and ive loved isuzus since the gemi so im possibly biased toward isuzu. I also know their trucks have a great rep.

There are reports around the net I have been told that towing is not a good idea with either. People towing horse floats have found that the rear drive assembly comes apart while driving. I, personally, wouldn't own one on that basis because I do tow a horse float, with my VS and it is wrecking the transmission, and I value my horses as well as other road users.

well that's a pretty major issue if its legit! the Colorado according to holdens website is good for 3.5 tonne towing so WTF!

I work on the dmax and mux day I day out really have no issues with them except for the radios with Bluetooth and few trim pieces as for the back end coming apart I've never heard of that before and there's plent of builders and that running around with 2 tonne trailers on them all day every day here never had an issue had 2 diffs crap out spider gears because they don't have an lsd anymore and use the ebc as an lsd the guys didn't know what they were doing while off-roading and just sat there spinning the one side from soft to hard surfaces

There are others but this type of thing has been reported for a few years now and going through 3-4 years of FB posts of different groups and different business' isn't something I feel like doing.

His wheel nuts where left loose more than once? geez, thats bad luck..

Thanks for the replies. I hope to find more info on engine and transmission reliability but it looks like they are both reliable. As far as the wheel falling off that's caused by issues like someone not tightening the wheel correctly or it mat be due to poor material used in the wheel studs but that is most unlikely. A wheel must be tightened to a specified torque to prevent movement leading to a shearing effect on the studs and also prevent the studs stretching so to me that's not something that would concern me at this stage but thanks for posting. There are many of these vehicles running around the world without their wheels falling off. As I said I am more concerned with the reliability of the engine and transmissions. I know Holden and Isuzu had a falling out over these vehicles when Holden wanted to use their own engine and transmissions. The Isuzu has a very good proven record but the Holden is more powerful with heaps more torque but for how long is my question. The Holden is now called the Trail Blazer to imitate the US vehicles and have gone up by $10,000 as well so it's looking like Isuzu but I need to test drive both and see what deal I can get.
