JsRIG 355 4runner

Post by JsRIG »

G'day,
just a few shots of my 92 4runner, currently running a 355ci, previous to that was a 304 (the smoky death), and previous to that was a 3.8.
coming up to tuning time in the next few months so i thought i'd jump on board and pick your brains here and there when i get to it. got a fwe things on the go with the car at the moment as its been pulled off the road to get ready to race short course tracks.

its not too bad but currently severely restricted through the snorkel, it only has a 40mm outlet on it. in the midst of building a twin throttle setup with twin 3" snorkels to overcome this. the new treads to go on once the suspension work is done will need all the torque they can get!

the flares on it currently are 80mm, the largest you can get in aus and as far as i'm aware only available from one company whos name has slipped from m memory.

Hi,
I'm thinking of a similar conversion myself, I want a car that is a bit more practical than my VL, but I still want the 304. I'm thinking of buying a hilux with a sad motor and put a VN 5L in it. what gearbox did you use? ive heard the hilux gearboxes are a bit weak for such a torqey motor. got any tips for a newb at such a setup?

thanks

hey bud,
i use an R151f
the G52 found behind the 4cyl petty and some diesels is as weak as they come. some will argue but have personally had on another vehicle 3 go within 6 months while cruising with no excess load.
the box to use is either the R151/R151f. theres two models, one with "ADD" which is electronically activated 4wd and the other full manual. the manual one is easier to setup in a box conversion situation.

they are as tuff as they come. it has outlasted the original V6, a commo V6, a 304 and is still going with the 355. from the death list you can tell its been abused!

I had a bit of a look, but if I could ask a dumb question... from what I can tell, the R151 came out in some diesel hiluxs, do you know which models it came out on, and how can I identify one? is it stamped on the exterior of the box somewhere?

thanks

no, they are based on toyota dyna light truck internals. without an adapter they are not compatible.
