Looking for something with detail and reality without hopefully costing the earth.

Microsoft flight simulator always used to be one of the best, the 2016 version still looks very high detail but Im not sure what else is out there now.
edit: it seems there is an 'X' version now for < $30.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Microsoft-Fl ... 1712233285 also on steam.
Check how legit the code is in that one and how you get it/use it with the seller. It smells like a grey market import though....

Hi
Depends on what your looking for
Been into flight sims since the 80's and done a bit of design work on Msoft flight sim franchise...FSX is fine but its getting a bit dated, the ver of fsx on steam is prob the cheapest and most up to date.
Lockheed brought the fsx engine to build their own flightsim for training perps..its called Prepar3d
https://www.prepar3d.com/ The licencing system is pretty limited as it cant be sold for entertainment due to msofts code, but you should be fine on the Academic License, which is for ppl who want to train for real world flight procedures ect....X-plane some like it some don't but at least its still being developed. Msoft flight was hated by most sim nuts more of a game rather than sim....
If you want dirt cheap try rise of flight WW1 flight sim but is fun to just fly stick and rudder... free to download, you get a few aircraft but the additional aircraft/addons you have to purchase for a few bucks each.....heaps more out there but most are gameish

Cheers guys,
I did see that steam website but wasn't sure about it's authenticity....
I'm thinking we probably need to build a pc for this sort of stuff as the laptop just won't cut it.
I used to do the real thing years ago so I want something realistic, going to have a play with something much larger though.
