VK Calais L76 Conversion

So the next project on the go is a L76 and 4L60E in to a VK Calais for my brother. Should make good power with a reasonable cam and LS3 heads. The question for the guru's is what way to go with the PCM?

I think the simplest solution is a VZ series 2 setup with E38 PCM, it runs the 4 speed, works with the crank trigger and interfaces with all the existing sensors. I think pretty much the only difficulty is the DBW throttle, or are the throttle pedals fairly easy to adapt to the early girls?

Any other options? LS1 PCM was initially the preferred option as we have all this already but not keen on swapping the crank trigger or running a trigger conversion box.

I'm far from an expert on this but my mate has an LS-2 with a t-56 in a torana. He's running a GM performance parts computer and loom and that's drive by wire, he's has been cammed as well and is making 340kw at the wheels. Fairly certain he said it wasn't much more than buying 2nd hand stuff and a lot less work to install as you didn't have to unpick an old loom. Something to look into anyway

Thanks, will check that option out too. Easy is good!

Throttle pedals are fairly easy. ive used VZ and VE on a e38 ecu all work good
E38s are good just wont control the AC

If you changed the crank reluctor to 24X you'd nees to change the camshaft too I think to get the 1X pulse compared the the 3X for the E38.

Looks like this will be a VZ series 2 harness and E38 PCM, easiest solution to make everything work with the least amount of effort.

As much as I would like to see it on a '424 I dont want/need the task of wiring and tuning this one!

I think potentially you can control A/C with the right OS as some applications may trigger off the ECU rather than a Bus signal

that's fair enough. the main thing for me with ls engines is no realtime tuning. unless you want to spend a heap of money on a computer.

drive by wire is no big deal to set up just make sure your pedal matches your throttle body and your sweet. some work backwards so if it is a ve throttle body to match the ls3 heads and manifold use a pedal from the same car.
