rare as and if there is one out there your gunna have to stand in line :)
easier to pop in to holdens or find a shop that has one ...have heard the snap on one may work but they are very pricey...

you may find one in the states? also I remember reading somewhere there was someone around that had the tech to do the cartridges

snap on recently made a heap of their models obselete, and stopped releasing updates. a mate of mine grabbed one that does up to 2013 models of most australian released cars, plus all the cables and keys for it, very very cheap, because all the workshops are upgrading to the newer snap on models. might be worth looking at. I have used it and it does most of what a tech1 and 2 does anyway!.

@ Jayme, off the top of your head do you know what model the scanner is?

@ The 1, I'm currently living near the country music capital of Australia but my place is for sale and I'll probably end up in the lower Hunter Valley.
I could go into my local Holden dealer (Kensells) and get them to reset it for me but I want to be able to do these things myself.

There is a guy somewhere in hickstown (the name I call Tamworth) who goes by the name of Brettjjj on Just Commodores. I remember years ago he got one but I don't know where abouts he is or if he is still even around.

I bought one a while ago, unfortunately havent gotten around to doing any R&D with it as of yet.
They really are ancient, Im actually looking forward to reverse engineering it all so it can be either be sold off.. or framed or something! Its stupid that they didnt include the older vehicles into Holdens newer tools.

Is there something in particular your looking to diagnose?

I need to reset the srs system because my air bag light is stuck on after I changed the ignition lock.

EDIT: I have contacted this mob http://www.oemtools.com/homeproducts/generalmotors.html to see what they have available. I realise I will still have to get the cartridge and cables to suit.

I remember when they come out in Australia, I was doing my apprenticeship in Darwin and then moved back to NSW and was working at Wyong Motors Holden. We all thought they looked high tech, looking at the new scanners they are more like something you'd see in a Flintstones cartoon.

If I do get a Tech 1 I'll get as many cartridges as I can and I'll create a cartridge library. In the US GM had the good idea of putting all the individual cartridges into 1 MSC (Mass Storage Cartridge) but GMH never did.

Might be able to help on that.

But, the SRS system runs off a different pin on the VR/VS vehicles (From what I see on the pinout diagrams).

Using an ALDL cable, and wiring to the correct pins, might be able to manually send a command to clear it.

Theres no way GM should still be so reliant on such old equipment.

Yep, see this thread here and the next page. You'll need to hook an ALDL interface to pin 1 instead of pin 9. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=156&start=130

Ah that looks familiar!

VL said the command on VS is F2,56,A,AE
So throw that into OSE tool.
