Hi all,

Somebody have experience with MS?
I have plan to upgrade my delco ECU (OBD 1, Opel engine) to MS?

Cheers

I've used mega squirt last year. Not really impressed with a bitsa ecu concept although the software was relatively straight forward.
Calling it an upgrade though would be questionable.
I think its great for hobbyist to have a play if you want to build up a box.

I looked at this path many years ago before I found out about 12P and tuner pro and the delco was the no brainer choice as it was easier to tune and more capable and definition and calibrations already existed as it was the native ECU that was in my car anyway.

I agree bin the MS idea.

Im thinking his opel ecu cant run 12p and doesnt have equivalent software options. Megasquirt probably would be a good choice, or speeduino wouldbe less advanced but intetesting. No practiclal experience with either. Just check your existing sensor types and figure out how you'd wire it first. Then maybe rough up a tune and if its all feels about right get the hardware.

the mega squirt will certainly be able to run a basic EFI motor, they are very DIY based and have plenty of support doco so in that regard it should be good.

I have been helping a mate with a turbo 4 cylinder running a MS in an escort, its not that different to tuning with tunerpro, just things are labelled differently and found in different locations etc, but I found it easy enough to work out from scratch.

I guess the biggest down side to moving away from the factory ecu is you loose all the little nice things, but if there aren't any other options for tuning the stock ECU you don't have much choice.

Can always do a delco conversion, perhaps sell you an ECU bundled with the gear? Got to be cheaper and better off than an MS ? those cost about $500 4 years ago, pretty sure the MS3 is much more expensive as its more capable and complex than the old simplistic MS2 which was the $500 DIY pre-assembled at board level kit.

just had a quick search, yep! $1600 to $2000 for the current MS3 Pro model pre-assembled.
