Anybody using a UPS (uninteruptible power supply) at home?

Power supply in Auckland is becoming less reliable by the day. My Pi isn't happy with the loss of power and didn't reboot properly after the last power cut. Thinking maybe a small UPS to power the router and pi during those dark nights. We have laptops so no need for UPS there.

I don't have one but as far as my experience the eaton units are really good, yes the same mob that make the super chargers.

Im running one of these in my shed to UPS the PI. It'll keep the pi going, and a bunch of PIR sensors, and a via a 12->48v step up a wire network POE switch and IP cam for just over 24 hours.

What are you guys running the pi for??

I have a APC ups for my server and my router. IT is an ex-customers reject but with the new batteries in it I can run the server (DELL R720 blade) plus switch and router for 4 hours.

I amin the process of designing my own power wall and seriously looking at going off grid. I have the same issue as you Immortality the power here is not 100% reliable.

I also sell both EATON and APC for my business, but suspect that freight to NZ might be a little on the high side.

Im using it as an IP connected security system with regular PIRs on the GPIO lines and at the same time as a wifi to wired gateway for the shed (though proper underground connection of services including wired data is coming next week. yay!) Was way cheaper and more capable an a bit of fun than the off the shelf options, just needed to UPS it and opted to do it in the 12v side for run time efficiency since I realised I didnt care about anything 240v if the power was cut. Even low voltage led lights are fine. Much longer uptime out of it for cheaper than a regular UPS.

all eaton gear here at work no problems, had very bad reliability with apc but that was 10yrs ago so never went back. All our gear though is fully online UPS's and where we dont need battery backup like secondary racks we use these PSF filters, which cover all that you need, never yet had anything in a rack die because of power with these installed. I usually have those filters installed behind the ups's to so they are the weak link before a ups gets taken out.

Yes The1, APC was terrible 10 years ago. I still have one of them running but I have replaced the battery in it. Most of them the smarts for both battery float voltage and the supply in let all the smoke out of their components. After that stupid UPS did not function. I did try to put the smoke back in but think I had the wrong type....
