Opel Kadett - Delco 16139679 ECU with ignition problem

Post by Swobber »

Hey there,

My Opel Kadett 1,4i Cat runs a 16139679 ASHA XL ECU that suffers from loosing its ignition signal to the ignition amplifier sometimes.
Its on pin 4D that this signal disappears sometimes - has anyone come across this before? And maybe have a solution?

I still have the camshaft timing signal when loosing the ignition signal.

Best Regards,

well from what i can gather that is the EST Output ..... this shouldn't stop the engine from running but would make it go into bypass mode ?

i would think the only thing that would cause the est output to fail would be the ECM is not getting a signal like B5 - distributor input or something like that.

possible causes
1 camshaft signal low -change sensor
2ignition amplifier sometimes

The camshaft signal (Hall/Square signal) is still there full scale when the engine wont fire.

But the signal from the ECU to the ignition amplifier is not there.

What is EST?

When the EST signal is missing, the ignition wont fire - its the trigger signal for the amplifier.

I'll try and get a new ECU or amplifier - hopefully today.

Btw - if the EST is missing, how could it run i bypass mode?

Not sure exactly on the ECU or ignition module that your using, but on the aussie ones the EST signal is monitored by the ECM using a feedback signal. If its missing it switches to bypass mode automatically so spark resumes. A fault gets logged - its code 41 on ours.

The ignition on the Kadett is and old Lucas system - the ECU control the amplifier - without the signal it wont fire.

Im off to the scrapyard to get a ECU.

Scrapyard was closed today - but tried a new amplifier - did'nt help, ill have to wait till monday to get it fixed, unless i can get hold of a ECU somewhere else.

Is there any chance that a ECU from a Corsa 1,4i c14nz will run in the kadett, if the number on the ECU is different?

if the connectors ECU are the same color, only the software needs to be replaced.
On my car I've tried four different computers on cars with my software and work perfectly
numbers and letters were different
