Switch from code 59 to 12P

Hi Gents

After fighting with code 59 on my car for the last 6 months, and dealing with zero support, I need to find another solution to tune this engine before 59's inconsistent fuel delivery and boost control blows it up. The car is a 1990 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo GT, 7749 ecm is original.

So I have a few questions:

Which American variant of the '165 ECM can be used and will any of them have 8192 baud data readily available?

Can I use a standard pinout for a 165 or does 12P have a different layout, if so, where can I download the diagrams?

Will I be able to use my Ostrich 2.0 emulator and ALDU1 with 12P? Or will I need to buy a completely new flash cable?

Thanks!

Any '165 will work. Get the ose12p zip file, the wiring is in it. I think its the same, but you shouldcheck. There are also a couple of existing threads about using it on a 165. The ostrich can emulate the chip but were have another thread where trouble is reported, but then we have others that say they work. It'd be great if you could try and report back. You may need to set the offset to 0x8000 in the xdf header.

Thanks Antus! I'm most definitely going to try it. The remaining question I have now is will 8192 baud be readily available with the '165? I'm actually going to try the a newer variant, the 16198259 or 88999194 ECM.

*edit* I nearly forgot.....I also have Low Z 72lb injectors, will I need to switch to high Z?

Thanks!

yep, it was only we aussies who got the knobbled ecm with the ALDL SXR chip missing and set up for slow speed (and a gap on the pcb for it!). The '165 which is the american equivalent has the chip. I dont know what the 16198259 or 88999194 is. The ecm board should look like this https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewt ... =30#p34314

Ok great, thanks. And the low Z drivers are present in any 165 ECM?

You would need to use the peak and hold function, link pin D3 and D9 for this. I dont know if it works for multiple injectors though, it was designed for a single TBI setup.

High impedance injectors are cheap and common now days though.

Thanks. I'll just sell these low Z 72# injectors and buy some high Z

Is there any way to convert kph to mph when building the flex tables?

Also, it seems as if those flex tables can be linked? Or am I not seeing that correctly?

Its not a feature ive used but i think the ose tool will set up the tables and generate and xdf for the configuration you have set. So you could edit the equastion in the xdf to use mph instead of kph. We figured that out kph to mph equasions here

Thanks Antus

So I can edit the xdf after building the flex table with the flash tool?
