$51 vs v6 vss ratio change to fix cluster

Just wondering if anyone has experimented to fix cluster reading for speedo with either vss ratio - pulse/rev output shaft speed factor or the vss ratio - speed constant for automatic transmission?
I know changing them will alter speeds shifted if auto but this is manual & in a vp so I would have thought any percentage change will change the speedo, it outputs to D2 & goes straight to cluster but changed both factors by around 20% & didn't seem to affect the reading?
