They go by many names, P01, P59, VPW, '0411 etc. Also covering E38 and newer here.

Glad to hear you got it working. Just curious, was the firmware upgrade completed? What firmware version are you running?

Little bit of a thread dig from a long time lurker.

Late last year I bought a used MVPI 1 pro setup. Original tuning school laptop, firmware/driver/HP tuners suite USB dongle, a few GM credits and the handset.

I'm trying to get some kind of confirmation on being able to purchase credits- without having to update the firmware on the cable itself.

Will throwing the latest version of HP tuners onto that laptop, and then disconnecting from the net PRIOR to hooking up the cable- still result in a firmware update?

I dont want to get stuck with a bricked unit like others have.

Find a version of the software prior to 4.2. Any version newer than that will force a firmware upgrade first time you sync the box to the software. Buying credits does not require a newer software version, you get an app key to enter into the software.
