Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
So I've reread the section of the manual for the VL400 Ignition Module I bought and the module allows for both Hall Effect & Variable Reluctance for trigger inputs to establish crank angle position. Has anyone had experience setting up the module in either configurations? Is there an advantage using one type of sensor over the other, from either a usage or configuration point of view?
My layman's read of the manual makes me think that a Hall Effect trigger might be easier to configure in the software, but I'm no expert. I plan on using a 36-1 chopper wheel if that matters.
With regards to the VSS, I plan on using a Hall Effect Sensor for the 808, so back to the Cherry GS100701 I posted previously. This is how I will position the Hall Effect Sensor to get a VSS signal from the brake disk bolts on the front hub.
I'm running 205/60R14 tyres which have a circumference of 1890mm and rotates 529 per kilometre. There are 4 bolts per revolution giving a total of 2116 pulses per kilometre. Will this work with an 808 using 12P?
Thanks

Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
yes it will. default for vn-vp is 1250 ppk and vr is 6400 iirc ppk.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
ok here goes ....
going off that box, last line, VR INT - that tells me its setup for a VR crank trigger, so you want a reluctor.
as far as the calibration, i think it should be doable to get it working for your setup.
probably the biggest question is what actual crank trigger are you going to be using ? obviously its setup for 24 + 2 at the moment but that should be just a calibration adjustment.
i've got one of these running on a 202 with 36 - 1 trigger and 6 LS coils as well as one in my brothers VP commodore using stock trigger and 6 LS coils so i am hoping in VL's absence i might be able to help you out.
firstly i would see if you can get a usb cable connected to it, plug into the computer and use the flash tool to get the calibration off it, once you have that then we can start looking at what needs to be changed.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
Thanks for the reply Holden202T,
VL400 sent me the relevant documentation to suit this version of the module as well as a file to allow me to read and edit the CAL in TunerPro. I've read then manual a couple of times and am yet to decide which way I will go with regards to using a VR or Hall sensor for the Crank Angle Sensor. Both require different configuration/set-up and I'm not sure if there's an advantage of using or setting up one over the other. Which are you using, VR or Hall?
With regards to trigger wheel I think I found a bloke who can make whatever I want and I'll most likely go with 36-1.

im using a commodore ABS sensor which is a reluctor, i cant fault it!

Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
Did you setup the sensor within the module configuration yourself as detailed in the manual or did VL400 set it up for you? I'm sure both reluctor & hall sensors perform the same once set up, but it's the setting up of the 2 that I'm trying to figure out which is easier.Holden202T wrote:im using a commodore ABS sensor which is a reluctor, i cant fault it!

Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
i was actually one of the first testers of the ignition module so VL400 did all the setup of it ... originally dizzy trigger with one coil, then moved to 36-1 trigger .....
the main issue i believe is the reluctor uses the VR board which is an add on board inside the module, if you dont have it you cant convert the reluctor signal into the 5v square wave signal you need.

Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
Well I don't know if it has the additional VR add on board or not. Below are parts of of his reply to me after seeing the photos posted here as well as me telling him who I bought the module off so he could identify exactly which one I had and how he had configured it.
"I don't have much in the way of documentation or anything for that version unfortunately."
"The attached instruction manual is for the next version after your hardware and software but it's a similar concept."
And this is the version of the manual he sent me.
And looking back at the photos I posted of the module earlier in this thread it does state "VR INT: V0.3" so maybe it does have the VR add on board installed.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Chuff's MK1 Escort
yep i reckon it does purely because it was written on the box .... but if you want to confirm it, just pull the screws out one end of the box and slide the board out and post i a pic .... the top add on VR board actually says its a VR interface board on it.
