So long as the bin still requires the security PAL we feel its ok to have it posted. It can help people see what gets tuned and Kalmaker can still get the royalties if someone would want to use the bin as posted.

Popped down to Jaycar n got a 40pin head and modded it to take the 32pin memcal no worries. Not too sure on the correct orientation of the memcal in relation to the MemprogL insertion socket so I read the chip both ways and saved them in both BIN form and HEX form each time. None of the 4 ways will open in Kalmaker and shows a "script not present" code for the BIN files and the HEX ones obviously (now :? ) show "binary file not present" code.

Any clues as to how to open this tune, that is if I've pulled the tune from the chip correctly

Oh, and which way is the right way again? The MemprogL is very generic and doesn't give any info in regards to this unfortunately

unless you have it disabled the elnec software will check insertion etc before it does anything
pin 1 goes to the top, read it as a National 27c010

if you look at the eprom there will be a small notch at one end for pin1.Match this with picture as dr bob said.
also if you have an aldl cable vl400s flash tool will detect kalmaker and read bin.
My Pm box is always open ,security pal or not. :D

After checking the orientation re your guys suggestions it turns out that the memcal was inserted the correct way the 1st time I did a read and was saved as a BIN file. Still can't load it to the read buffer for viewing in kal. Any chance the original tuner has "locked" the tune? I thought that even if the user id was different I would still be able to peruse it in my read buffer while not connected to the ecu
