6L80e (6 speed VE auto) behind 304?

Anyone heard of this being done? I've seen kits from the US that make them "stand alone" electronically, but I'm wondering if maybe the relevant LS computer can be used on the holden v8, and what that would entail?

I was having a quick browse the other day and think I saw mentioned that older LS computers could be put into some "dumb" mode that made them work with a 4 pulse signal compatible with the stock distributor, so can that still be done with the newer setup? Or would you need the exact setup, but then you could benefit from coil on plug?

I presume you would you have to convert to the relevant fly by wire throttle body and peddle?

On the subject, I noticed that Injection Connection (aka Kalmaker) make a nice wiring harness for doing conversions with these LS engines and gearboxes into any car, and it says they only require 4 wire hookup (ign, start, neutral, and something else?). See https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/winthro ... 1153727205 and https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/winthro ... 1094129045
So maybe there isn't that much required for getting this working on holden v8?

if you use the tcm2650 controller u can put the 6l behind anything really. it just needs a tps & rpm signal to work at a very basic level.

heres a spiel i wrote up after converting a coupe of existing ls1/ls2 cars.

Thanks a lot, that's a good post you've made there, and it's sold me on the conversion! I wish I had found your blog earlier. Couple of quick questions;
1) The rubber transmission support, is that the stock one on your custom bracket?
2) I think these require a unique torque convertor, but is it the same flex plate as 4L60?
3) How did you connect the stock shifter?
4) Your inlet air temp mod, just to confirm, are you saying that you intercepted the wiring for the real sensor and temporarily replaced the signal?
5) Does it interfere with any of the exhaust manifolds etc that are designed around 4L60?

1) 100% stock
2) same flexplate for all ls motors
3) used 6l80e shifter rod into stock shifter arm
4) yes, it goes to a relay to switch from actual air temp sensor to set resistance while shifting
5) not on vt-vz it doesnt.

I had been planning on ordering about 10 units from zero gravity as i have a few customers wanting them for conversions.

I can put you down for one if you like. I had just been holding off while covid shit was going on as freight was taking ages to move.

Has anyone fitted a 6L80E to a VN/VS? Will they fit in the tunnel without any cutting?

This is what I plan on doing, and I asked that question on aussiev8 forum, but haven't had any replies yet. See https://www.aussiev8.com.au/showthread. ... 4?p=768167

If Tre-Cool says 6L80 fits VT-VZ with no mods, and they came with 4L60e gearbox, then it should fit VN-VS too, as they also come with T700/4L60*. That's my theory.

Thanks. Yer I guess I'll be needing one now. I'll just have to see if I can source the gearbox at a fair price. All the ones on gumtree and FB are $600-1200 - a stark difference to your $250 example. But we're both in Perth, so it can't be that hard to find a fair price.

I did see a transmission joint over east selling brand new ones for $2500: http://www.rvoautomatics.com.au/product ... brand-new/

prices started going up as i was doing the conversion. all LS stuff is getting to dwindling supplies.

I have 3 on the shelf myself..

my e ute has over 800whp & my vy has 650, so when they die. i'm ready to go. but they are lucky to be driven a couple days a month at the moment.

neRok, how did you go with this? I would also be interested in putting a 6 speed auto behind a holden 304 engine or chevy 350. I think would make our old holdens much more drivable.
