With the reliability of VZ replacing the ecm can be a bit of a pain.
All you need is the PIM and ECM from a donor (If the engine computer isn't already stuffed, it's hit and miss sometimes).
Rip the PIM eeprom.

Hook these up and go thru the ECM and PIM resets, don't have to link them to anything to do this.
Both are clear and ready to install, If you know the security code for the original PIM (and it hasn't already been changed) hook that back up and link the blank ECM to the car.

If you have the code for vin from holden, you could rewrite the eeprom with the correct code for the next poor sucker that has to do it after resetting the ecm.

Most already know how to get the BCM code to do this.

At the end of the day it's just proving that bcm, keyfob, ecu and pim don't need to be sold in a bundle (Like ebay and most wreckers think).
So cheaper and a crapload less work for anyone replacing these, I know it works because I've done it a couple of dozen times now.

Nothing worse than calling holden with a vin and getting a code that doesn't match the pim and ecu you're working on and swearing because someone has changed everything previously and not done the job properly to give one motivation to figure something out.

I was only interested in the important bits, haven't bothered checking a reset PIM to a linked one, never delved into the configuration information, but that stuff shouldn't take long to work out. Not that it's needed as most scantools can reconfigure these anyway.

Although interesting when you flip the bits to make sense you see "OPEL"

There is also a brute force method for the ecu in another thread, will have to finish that program!

I have seen that thread, great work if it's the last choice (which is going to be the case someday soon).

Even though this is manual desolder, rip and resolder, it's under a 10 min job.
I don't even bother calling holden anymore lol..... sadly it takes longer to talk to someone.

Even been lucky to find the details in some wrecks on the oem docs.... which didn't match.

yeh what a cluster F these setups are.

You dont even need to desolder the PIM ones, BCM ones you do as they have a Capacitor inline to F up the read.

Use one of these to just clip on and read the PIM eeprom.
