i like the PCB idea, is that your design or something you found ?

My design, and they're arriving today!! - I'll release the files, schematics, VHDL etc if it works as expected. Can't see why it won't, its just gating the original signal once its synchronized to the cam.

Unfortunately during a spirited drive to the mail box this morning.... around 5000rpm at 9psi, the charge pipe popped off. I pulled up to put it back on but unfortunately the turbo is now very unhappy with me.

Best guess is charge pipe popped off, vanes closed up to try maintain 9psi outlet pressure, spooled to infinity. Still boosts but is loud, squealy, and heaps of shaft play. RIP little guy. What better time to kick off the new manifold and turbo build - I'll need to put in some kind of safeguard to stop this happening again. Or I could just buy another $80 core and rebuild it...

Soldered the board up last night and popped some code on the CPLD. Looks to be doing what I want. I'm thinking of changing the design to include an oscillator so I can check for a timeout/stall condition to resync. Also thinking of putting a VR circuit on there to remove the pulsar spark module completely.

Could probably just add a cap to one of the pins and charge it every ign pulse, a timeout would be when its read as '0'. That could work...

the 3d print should finish in about an hour and i'll bench test it. Can be modified easy enough to support 6 or 8 cylinders, wasted spark or COP. Could do rev limit / 2 step if it had the oscillator on there...

So far so good!

You seem to look like you know what your doing. I'm a little confused with that unit on top of the Camira module. Have you made a programmable unit and just attached it to the Camira module for terminal sake?

The camira module is still the brains of the operation. It feeds a reference pulse to the ecu and the ecu sends back a spark pulse to the camira module to trigger the coil. This is where my module takes over.

The coil is disconnected and my module samples the signal instead. It uses the rotor position to know which plug should be fired and when.

This module then sends individual spark signals out to external coil packs. This way you can run a coil on each plug or a pair of coils in wasted spark mode.

Without a rotor and cap each plug gets a hotter spark, no damp weather misfires, and no missing under boost that the original gave.

It also makes the distributor half the height which is great for tight builds like on a vw

nice progress!

shame about the turbo, but at $80 is not the end of the world!

Removing the old turbo kit I've found what maybe responsible for the dead turbo. A kinked oil line :-(

Explains why there isn't a huge oilly mess in the turbo or intake. I'm don't think the spooling unloaded helped it any either especially if it was starved of coolant/lubrication.

While the borgwarner soaks in wd40 to try crack the compressor housing to clock it, I made a start at the new oversize manifold.

Also spent way too long browsing maxpeedingrods website and ended up with a t3/t4 0.50 0.63 on its way. If this vnt fails like the last it'll be a lesson learnt and time to move on.

They've also got forged H beam rods for my 18LE but at the price they're asking might be easier SR20 swapping it.
