VSS input to 808

Has anybody tried a Hall effect sensor mounted close to the yoke out of the back of Aussie M20 gearbox to generate some pulses for a VSS input. I can't see why it shouldn't work if the mounting is solid enough.
Any thoughts?

Yeah should work fine as long as the hall sensor spits out a 12V square wave.

The speed sensor sounds like a good idea. You could machine up a disc and either press it over the slip joint or weld it. I think that's what your getting at. I bought an off the shelf inline adapter for my speedo cable. I have seen an inline unit fitted into the speedo cable. It was done by a local instrument repairer but that was some years ago.

Yes, did think of a disc like you mention but I cannot see why it shouldn't work straight off the yoke. That should give you 4 pulses per rev. May need to use an OpAmp to clean the waveform up. Think I will just experiment with it.

I hadn't thought of using the existing parts of the uni joint. I'm interested to see how it works out. Post a pic when you have it setup along with a component list.
