Can any P01 take any P01 OS?

Does anyone know if I can clone a 12202088 or 12212156 OS on any P01 variant, or are those operating systems only compatible with the 12200411 PCM? Would I be able to flash them to a 9354896 PCM?

Yes, I have done what you suggest and I have done those OS's to both an 0896 and a 0411 PCM. Maybe I got lucky and I have never bricked a PCM but overall, this was easy.

And even if you brick one, there are recovery possibilities.

Thanks!

How did you get passed the differences in file sizes?
512kb versus 1mb?

All the above mentioned are 512k in size ...

And did you test this on a running vehicle to ensure it would actually run a vehicle properly??

Yes, the flash chip is the same, however there may be other differing hardware.

I have a small collection of maybe 6-7 of these P01 PCM devices variously loaded with the 2088 and 2156 and 8322 operating systems. And most of these devices and OS's have been in my El Camino at least once and ran well. I can't say these were exhaustive tests on my engine and trans but it appeared to work well.

I would expect them to work just fine, they are all 12200411 Os'es on 12200411 (9386530 hardware) PCM's ...

That is not what was asked ... It was asked if those Os'es (from a 12200411) would work on a 9354896 (16220610 hardware) PCM!

I haven't tried every OS, but several on the 9354896 and never had a problem. Now don't run an early 9354896 OS on the later 0411 as I've heard they don't always work. 9354896=ls1a and 0411=ls1b, always use ls1b OS on ls1b pcms, but you can use either on ls1a.

Thank you!

This suggests there is a conflict!

Thank you for the info and clarity.

I can't confirm any conflict, and it was hptuners files, not binaries, that supposedly sometimes had issues. They will write fine and not brick, just read some bugs can occur. Just sharing what I know, and what I've read.
