1 was dirving and it stopped no restart again , another ecu runs again
2 an ebay buy plugged in no start ? sold a dud
3 I have no idea where it came from

what can i look at it see if they can be got working again ?
is there a common failing ?
or some one who dose repairs ?

I suppose their getting harder to find at a good price but I think your against the wall trying to fix it. I had a few early 808's that seemed to have dry joints. The manufacturer obviously improved them in the later ones. Good luck.

Just for the reference the N13 part is not relevant. All VN/VP/N13/JE Camira/LD Astra are the same '808. If you swap the memcal from the car in to an 808 from another car it'll function exactly the same. The later ones seems to be slightly higher build quality, but they're still pretty solid and it seems you are either having bad luck, or its possible you have a wiring problem around the ecu connectors and moving them makes or breaks a connection. If the results are repeatable depending on ECU then its probably not that though. Also it can be worth checking the EFI relay as if that becomes dodgy you can get intermittent results, also your starter circuit incase the ecu is ok. Look at the threads about flashing error codes by grounding a pin for the VN commodore and do the same to see if you have any codes.

If you are having trouble getting a good one at a reasonable price, you could try send your dead ones to Injectronics in Melbourne for refurb/repairs. I have one of their units repaired many years ago in my daily and it works great. There was a bunch of faulty multilayer ceramic SMD caps they replaced by the looks of it.

Not sure what they charge but it's an option. One I am considering myself as no wreckers I use have any 808s anymore and I don't have many spares left.

was thinking of keep or bin so for now will keep , have a n13 1.6 ecu will try and swap a memcal into it was working when removed
do mencals fail ?
as the car has a unstable ignition timing , at idle it jumps around 10 deg +/- and has a retard spike of 20 deg enough to have it
back fire in the intake , to drive off idle stumble hasitation , under load feels like a miss fire
have changed distributor 3 different ones , 3 different ecu ,leads plugs , even have a spare engine harness
I layed on top and pluged in same result

Do you have it in diag mode when you measure the 10 degrees at idle? Without that it is supposed to jump around at idle to provide smooth idle. Trying the 1.6 ECM with the memcal that suits the car is a good plan. Memcals dont often fail, but it is possible. They have a self test though and will trigger an error code if they detect the data on them has changed. Once you ground diag code 12 (1 flash, pause, 2 flashes, long pause) means no problems detected. Other numbers point to another circuit.

My concern is the retard spike of 20 degrees. They have no knock sensor on the N13 so how would it go that far into retard? Is it mechanical or ignition crossfiring?

and are all 3 doing the same thing with the same memcal, or different results?

Three different ecus with there own memcal , memcals not swaped between ecus

sounds inconclusive that its the same fault with 3 ecus then. It could easily be something else like ignition module or reluctor.
