Problem reading .bin p01 p59 ecu OS-12592433

Post by osmikejarden »

So iv been tuning a few commodores using pcm hammer to read/write and it works fine using a 15 year old obdlink sx cable on all the ls1's iv tried with 512k ecu but i can not seem to get the 1mb p59 to read the bin without failing. Iv tried 2 cars now both 2005 vz ss commorores one man one auto they run a 5.7 ls1 with drive by wire throttle and iv not tried removing ecu to do it on a bench yet. I have hptuners and efilive so i just unlocked via hptuners i work at a dyno shop in NZ i specialize in engine management we pay to unlock cars we tune but having a tool to reflash these for mates without having to pay a couple of hundred dollars every ecu is bloody great.

Ill add the log and debug and the hpt bin file from one that failed it takes a looong time to read gets a bunch of errors gets to about 10% and stops and spits out a error any help be much apricated

When i get time ill do a write up on here how to tune the 3.8 ecotech v6 flash based ecu's after searching round on here it seemed no body figured it out yet so i helped a mate make some custom logging parameters in tuner pro recently to tune using the factory o2 sensors and it worked really well ill make another thread about that.

Cheers Mike

It looks like a problem with the wiring, or devices on the bus in the car breaking things. It could also be firmware in the interface. Try updating the obdlink firmware and try again, if that doesn't fix it try it on the bench.

Looks like timing is too tight and device don`t get messages in full. maybe some bug with timings.
STPTO is setto 250ms which seems low for a $400 bytes message. I think it needs at least 800ms for a $400 bytes.

Hay thanks heaps for your help guys really appreciate it today I actually got this to work after trying several times the last couple of days. I pulled the ECU out today and bench flashed it and it worked read the bin fine then did a successful write and after refitting in the car was possible to write parameters using the obd2 port.

Thanks for reporting back. I was considering timing, but also thinking if that was the case, then it should be not working for many people and also wouldn't work on the bench. So it sounds like a misbehaving module in the car was causing issues. If you have this problem on this car again you might need to pull fuses or bench flash.
