Obdlink sx cable stopped working with pcm hammer.

Post by osmikejarden »

So I'm having some strange tuning cable related dramas. I use a obdlink sx cable with pcm hammer and it won't initialize the cable when I plug it in the cable is 20 years old an never given any issues until I installed a legitimate paid for registered version of renolink software. The strange bit is it still works with renolink but will not work on any other windows programs like obdwiz and pm hammer but if I plug it into my Android phone it still works with apps like obdwiz so I tried on another windows machine it picks up there is a obdlink sx tool plugged in but fails to connect to any thing now. Any body got any ideas how I can even test to see what the problem is.

has reno link opened and locked the port from any and all apps full time? Or are you not closing it when you test?

Im not sure how to tell if renolink locked the port but here is the debug from pcm hammer. Device manager picks up USB serial on COM 4 and USB serial converter.

Strange it says it doesnt exist, I'd have expected that it cant open it, so I'd say its replaced the standard driver with its own or something like that. It looks to be a problem at the system level, not the pcmhammer level. That error is coming straight from windows .net system.IO library.

You have damaged or unmanaged ports, you can clean them with the following steps,

For Windows versions less then 10.
Find the "Command Prompt" shortcut and Right-Click on it,
Select: Run as administrator
If required, Enter: Password
At the command prompt type (or copy paste) the following two commands,
set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
devmgmt.msc
For Windows 10 and greator ...
In the Search box type
devmgmt
and select Device Manager.
When Device Manager opens,
Select: View
Select: Show hidden devices
In the Device Manager Tree view,
Expand: Ports (COM & LPT)
On any ports you want to remove,
Select: Right Click
Select: Uninstall
In the Confirm Device Uninstall dialog,
Un-Check: Delete the driver software for this device
Select: Ok

The next time you plug the device in, it will re-install ...

I personally Uninstall all virtual COM ports and just allow them to reinstall in the specific order I plug the devices back in ... That way I get what I want on the ports I want them on.

-Enjoy
