Synthetic media filters can have some advantages particularly if running high ethanol content fuels. The typical off the shelf Ryco cellulose filter will absorb water and can go into bypass fairly easily, whereas the synthetic media filters don’t really absorb the water. Then again in some instances you may want to catch the water in the filter and just change out the filter. Just you never know when you’re in bypass.
Either way those Ryco ST filters can be pretty good value for money.

Probably not so much of an issue with a race car, I'm sure they get more frequent oil and filter changes.

Thanks Brindo, good advise there I had started using the Ryco ST series prior to pulling the motor. I cut the first one open and they do seem to cope with E85 associated moisture much better.

As Immortality mentioned, the filter gets changed very frequently, after every race meeting.

I will use the Z9ST ryco filter.

I've been staring at this picture for a while now and am struggling to understand how this doesn't wreck the crank and valve train with no balancer?

Any one have any ideas how this would survive?

Also, I have a large amount of updating to do, I have all the parts now to finish this project with exception of the belt. The pump is dummied up to the old block, the tank is mounted in the rear of the car, pics to follow.

Yep, they offer a power steering pump adapter to run off the rear. It makes it a nice setup
