Vy commodore
Figured I’d chuck up the vy. The misses owned the car years ago, and when it come time to selling it, the father in law put his hand up for it. I’ve been maintaining the car the whole time. Father in law recently passed away and left the car to me.

Recently re-trimmed the roof lining, and found a worn out steering wheel at the wreckers. So had a crack at re-trimming that. The rest has been bushes, rubber boots, wheel alignment, fluids and filters, brakes all the usual. Only mods so far are k&n filter, mace throttle body and a transgo pro shift kit alone with some fine tuning.

Banged a welsh plug into the egr opening. The mace tb actually fits pretty good. Also fitted a mace 82c thermostat and drilled a small hole through it just to help with bleeding a little further.

Re: Vy commodore
Car come with an alpine head unit. But steering wheel controls didn’t work and was getting some static through the speakers. After closer inspection found a dodgy birds nest of a wiring job. Thankfully who ever done the wiring didn’t hack up all the factory wiring. So got an iso patch harness and that killed 2 birds with 1 stone. While I was in there decided I’d throw some other gear in there. Already had the amp, head unit rca’s ect. So ordered some cheap cerwin vega 10” subs and alpine 6.5” speakers for front and back. Also found a rear view mirror from gator that has all the usual features a modern day car generally has like android and apple car play, maps ect, also has front and rear camera’s. Was around 2-300$ cheaper to go that route rather than getting a new head unit. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it

Re: Vy commodore
With the new speakers the old grills needed to be cut out to fit. From factory holden builds a bit of a cover over the top of oem speakers to stop water splashing down on them. So jumped onto the laptop and loaded up free cad. With a few measurements and some head scratching I made up some new covers in the software so I can 3D print them. I’ve decided to completely seal all the door speakers, essentially making an enclosure and mount for them. I paid attention to not make them too deep as to not let any of the windows hit on there way down. Rather then using heaps of heavy sound deadening and using the inside of the door as a crapy box that’s not sealed that great, I think it should improve sound a little and also keep the speakers safe from water ect.

Re: Vy commodore
Ended up finding some speaker pods online. 3D printing them was taking way too long. using something like 14-16 gauge speaker wire for all speakers and neatly running it all through the factory conduit in the doors for that factory look. Ran a 4 gauge kit for the amp. Also done a big 3 upgrade. Then dialled the amp in via a multimeter initially and then fined tuned it all using test tones. Managed to finally get my hands on a factory strut brace. Those adjustable ones on eBay I find to flex too much for my liking, which kinda defeats the purpose. And finally got around to fitting the roof lining and steering wheel I re trimmed. I think next up is painting the door cards and parts of the dash plastics, which I normally get a place over in wa to match the paint up for me.

Fitted a new 2.5' zorst over xmas. ended up getting a DEA with 2 mufflers to keep the noise levels down. It's hard to make these v6's sound good, but I'm happy with how it sounds. Also ordered a turbo and intercooler along with a mace cai. Time to start getting a kit together. also been testing The1's new code.
