Moates back online, seems like quarter horses are back

I saw a post on my Facebook group about this and yep moates.net is back up. I see a lot of posts stating it with no replies around the web, so I bit the bullet and actually made an order. Got Burn2 + FA + FE coming.

https://www.moates.net/

UPDATE: I got the order! USPS did some circles (yay for the Detroit sorting center seems that's always where the issue is at), but I got it =).

I never used their products before, I got into this stuff right after they closed up shop. Hopefully the business/domain wasn't sold. The whole shut down thing seemed a bit hush hush for the reason behind it. Best I got was about a chip shortage, I think when the website shut down it didn't mention anything about that, but I don't remember fully. Either case hope all is on the up and up, from my understanding the orig owner was calling it quits, so weird to see it open back up suddenly, maybe they had a charge of heart, not sure. I'm sure it's probably fine, I'm just one of the ones that question things too much lol.

Assuming all goes smoothly, I'll report back here that I got the products and such that I ordered so there's some sort of record online since they reopened confirming if things are legit or not.

Ironically I was wanting the J3 adapter so I can read computers through that interface and possibly get full EEPROM dumps w\o having to remove the chip, TI Performance makes them but were out of stock when I made an order with them. I grabbed everything together from Moates to make sure it should go smoothly but I think the TI Permanence programmer would work with it too. Having more than one programmer is never a bad thing though lol.

Order was done earlier today, and I got a tracking number from zip 70817 and USPS has the package, so it seems like everything is on the legit side of things and really fast speed at getting things out, so all good signs that I see so far =).

There's a post about it here:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c4 ... losed.html

After covid the price of a lot of components went through the roof for a while.
I was doing a few prototype things at the time, and seem to remember the price of an atmega328 (microcontroller used in an arduino uno) being over $100 USD on JLCPCB. Quickly put that project on the back burner.

That's crazy, I bought Arduino Mega's around that time for like $18 each if I remember right, but it's been a bit ago so maybe my memory is just bad lol.

I heard there was a post about the site reopening, but I don't know what site they use normally, so I guess it's the Corvette site. Everything Moates related seemed to be mostly around the quarter horse so it's kinda weird seeing it on a GM forum.

Either case, it seems like they are back, so that's all a nice positive move forward. I seem to always find posts where people are trying to find QH chips and such.

Of my understanding the OG is running it. Long term we will find out if the product quality drops.

Ironically the lead wire for the Burn2 adapter to J3 is kind of short, the one from TI Performance is slightly longer (their programmer hooks up to their J3 chips using the same cable), so I'm using the TI Performance cable with the Burn2 adapter since it's like 1.5-2in longer. Besides that seems to be fine.

The actual software seems to be not polished the greatest, even had it crash once lol. There's an open source project for Linux users, so I'll probably make my own program so it can read, validate, edit, write, validate, and give a pass/fail instead of going through all the steps manually for disabling PATS. Basically a select computer type and 1 button press. Glad the hardware isn't locked down to only their software.

I also found an EEC-V with a J3 port that seems to have zero support. It's a 512kb model which seems to have been only used for Mazda models. The physical chip is an Intel Flash chip 4mib (512KB) so probably will have to work out how the J3 port works on those and hopefully be able to address the whole address space of the flash chip to read it at least. I'll probably make a thread about them to see if anyone else has any experience.
