The Holden VN/VP Commodore range was produced between Sept 1988 and Jul 1993, they used the 1227808 ECM throughout these years, essentially a 1227165 minus the SXR I.C, as a result they only have 160 baud serial comms (which for a 93 model car is pretty poor!). The 5.0L V8 engine is Holden's own design, the 3.8L V6 is the Buick derivative, both are MAP based PFI. Auto trans is the TH700R4.

The Holden VR Commodore was produced between Jul 1993 and Mar 1995, it used a 16176424 PCM or a 16183082 ECM, again fitted with the Holden 5.0L V8 or the 3.8L V6 (Which was much more refined then previous versions). Both engines still being MAP based PFI, Auto Trans model got the full electronic Auto (4L60-E). They also gained a security system that was integrated with the PCM/ECM. Both PCM/ECM now communicate at 8192.

The Holden VS Commodore was produced between Mar 1995 and Sept 1997, it used 3 different ECM/PCM's depending on the Engine/Trans Combo. Still with the Holden 5.0L V8, however the 3.8L V6 was reworked and now carried the "Ecotec" badge, it also used a frequency O/P MAF and went to Sequential Injection on the V6. Also retained was the same security system that was integrated with the PCM/ECM, and of course communications at 8192. Auto trans is still the 4L60-E.

The VT Commodore was the all new update to the VN-VS Models, engines remained the same (Except the Holden V8 gained an Air Mass Meter system and Sequential Injection). The Auto Trans (4L60E) remained, the rest is new... The mid 1999+ models had the option of two versions of the "Detuned" Chevrolet 5.7L LS1 V8 (~300Hp) replacing the Holden V8. The LS1's PCM is Flash Memory based, with Delphi's custom version of the Motorola 683xx, 32bit MCU. See the main pcmhacking.net site for information and bins.

VX - VY
The VX Commodore was the update to the VT, to most, they would appear as visual changes only. The LS1 (GenIII) V8 remains an option, as does the V6 in both naturally aspirated and Supercharged form. The Supercharged VX V6 PCM remains the same as the VT's (16233396), however the standard V6 gained a new Flash based PCM (09356445), these can be identified by the brown coloured plugs and of course no removable Memcal. This Flash based PCM is not the same as used on the GenIII V8.
