spark-only delco conversion

Post by keto »

i've got abit of a soft spot for the old toyota pushrod 4 cylinder cars and have turbo'd a few over the years... i have a friend that wants abit more go in his toyota but still wants it oldschool looking engine wise so wants to run a supercharger blowing through some dellorto side draft carbs, i know its not ideal but i'm still keen to help him out

it is a 4k motor, with abit of port work, some really nice extractors and twin side-draft dellortos, probably a sc12 or sc14 on the side (still on the hunt)

so i am planning on running a 808 with a 2bar map sensor just for spark, tuning it with my 3082 then burning to a eprom for the 808
running from the toyota electronic pick-up in the dissy, i'll lock the advance weights up, then through a HEI module from a 350 chev dissy pick-up so the computer can control it and have a adjustable spark curve (i don't think we got camira's in NZ????) or whatever i can find cheap :D

so i THINK i need to hook up the following to do this?
TPS
water temp sensor
dissy

air temp sensor???

when i reconfig a 6cyc memcal to 4 cyc will i still have limp home mode??

i got a module from pick a part they are on quite a few cars worth a look.limp home mode wont work properly but it doesnt matter as it should just lock timing at 10degree module mode .then just hook up tps map iat coolant and off you go

oh thats mint i'll have a look around at p-a-p, just holden cars? or do nissan's and stuff of a certain era use the same stuff?

if i set it to ~20 degrees base setting then it it would even be safe to drive home (i used to run locked dissy at 23 degrees on my last carby turbo 5k build) i'll just have to account for it when tuning

i also would like to run a output triggered off a map value(say 130kpa), can i do this off a programmable output channel to trigger a relay or do i need it to trigger a transistor?
(so i can run a resister pack to reduce fuel pump voltage off boost and then ramp up to full voltage on boost)

If you set it for a base of 20 degress that will also be your cranking spark advance, 10 degress will get you home fine if your worried about limp home if the ECU fails - more chance the ignition module would fail really.

Running 12P can use a flex output for the fuel pump control. A better way than a resistor pack (way less wasted power and fine speed control not just on off) is to use PWM for the fuel pump drive, either a solid state relay or one of these ... https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=397

The modules are pretty common, I found a list on an add for a new item of compatible vehicles.

Part No: BIM148
Item Name: BOSCH IGNITION MODULE ASTRA CAMIRA PULSAR N13

Application:
HOLDEN ASTRA LD ENGINE CODE 16LF, 7/87-7/89 4 CYL 1.6L
HOLDEN ASTRA LD ENGINE CODE 18LF, 7/87-7/89 4 CYL 1.8L
HOLDEN CAMIRA JD ENGINE CODE 18JC, 2/86-3/87 4 CYL 1.8L
HOLDEN CAMIRA JE ENGINE CODE 20JD, 4/87-9/89 4 CYL 2.0L
DAEWOO 1.5I ENGINE CODE G15MF, 8/94-10/95 4 CYL 1.5L
DAEWOO CIELO ENGINE CODE G15MF, 8/94-8/97 4 CYL 1.5L
DAEWOO CIELO ENGINE CODE A15MF, 8/94-8/97 4 CYL 1.5L
DAEWOO ESPERO ENGINE CODE C20LE, 9/93-10/99 4 CYL 2.0L
NISSAN PULSAR N13 ENGINE CODE 16LF, 8/87-10/92 4 CYL 1.6L
NISSAN PULSAR N13 ENGINE CODE 18LE, 8/87-10/92 4 CYL 1.8L

According to wikipedia (so must be true! heh):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Camira

"After an initial good sales run, Camira sales dropped significantly, and was discontinued in 1989. The Holden Apollo, a rebadged Toyota Camry was introduced as the Australian market replacement, with New Zealand instead offering the European-sourced Opel Vectra. In all 151,807 Camiras were built (85,725 JBs; 36,953 JDs; and 29,129 JEs).[1]"

So, technically they must have existed in NZ, wether or not theres any left, is another story.
