Had an idea  would it make it safer to pull spark plugs out disconnect fuel line then charge the few batteries I have laying around and turn the engine over many times to make sure oil is primed after filling the oil pump.

Just to be super safe

I was also going to say not to 'blip' the throttle while running in that new stick, however tempting it may be

A Holden V8 will not pick up oil by cranking - the pump must be correctly primed, and you need to get it started straight away especially if you haven't primed the engine galleries fully.

The best way is to remove the filter and use a hand pump with the hose sealed against the centre bore.

Sounds easier that way, so pump oil in the hole for the filter, snug fit hose. How much oil should be pumped in?
