was thinking ahead  once timing is done should I check spark on the plug before putting back in? I'll have to turn motor a bit to get fuel to the carby anyway? also should I be expecting any odd noises or smokey exhaust on first start, being a fresh motor?

Madmatt2006 wrote:"on the compression stroke" how do you tell it's on compression stroke?
You need to make sure both valves on that cylinder are closed.

I always fill the motor via the thermostat housing.
Leave it off while you fill the radiator and block, and when it's full, replace t-stat and housing cover.
Remember, you don't want to stop the engine while you're bedding in the cam. If you have an air lock or an incomplete fill, the temperature will soar (spike) very quickly.
Didn't think of that, I have coolant and all that. So fill there and then fill radiator and squeeze radiator hoses to get air out?

Had another thought  I have no idea of the condition of the heater core, should I just loop it for this 20 minute run?
