Then went racing Finally had a chance to give this new logger a test on the car I built it for! Logging a custom message at 30Hz it has showed up some serious short comings of the current setup The RPM signal is crap (noisy and occasional misfire with a super high RPM reading) and we are seeing possible fuel surge/pump issues where it leans out at half track (peak VE) on some passes and not others yet inj PW is identical. So we will add a fuel pressure sensor and log that next meeting. So here are two pics, the first is TP showing the RPM, target AFR, wideband (logged via one of the loggers analog inputs), MAP and fuel PW...

Going to change heaps of the ignition parts, running the wrong leads to start with, so hopefully can get a nice clean RPM signal. Have added more fuel for the next time out as its leaned out heaps (as can be seen with the target vs actual AFR) with the new pipes, needed about 7% more fuel to bring it close, prob going to be closeer to 10% when all done. The upside was, even with the poor tune and issues it ran 10.23 @ 129 MPH

found something funny the other day, iv always known about the high voltage induction thing with leads and always been a bit fastidious about lead placement as iv had dramas in the past but im working on an old 26 chev at the moment and its got new copper core leads on it and they all go through a holder on the top of the rocker cover

i put the timing light on it to check the timing and the light went spastic and i thought there was some induction happening from the other leads and jerry rigged a carbon core lead to try..... worked no problem

however the old no1 lead had the end touching the block and i could hear a spark jump occasionally and went looking for it and discovered there was spark jumping to the block every ignition pulse without the lead even connected. yes induction but the strength was unbelievable

i got an old sparkplug and connected the unconnected lead to it and yep spark jumping over the plug gap every spark pulse

what a interesting thing, way back then they had waste spark management to refire the plugs 3 extra times per cycle lol

Man there must be some serious magnetic radiation coming off them leads for that to happen.

yeah some leads and plugs arnt good for efi definatly copper leads and plugs without resistors

Had a test and tune yesterday, spent the day trying a few things to get the RPM signal nice and clean but was not able to improve it at all - new leads made it worse so went back to the original ones, moved the wiring all around for the reluctor pickup and even disconnected the alternator. Next up is to try a different ECU and camira ign module. Even the tacho went spastic on one of the runs.

Wired up a pressure sensor on the fuel rail and logged it via the Logger, can see fuel pressure dropping right off during the run so ordered a new 044 pump for it. Currently runs a second hand 984 which has proved itself well over the last 4-5 seasons - just cant cut it now with more cubes. We run 42lb inj at 55psi rail pressure, works out to around 48lb. Injector duty cycle peaks at 80% at which point its needing around 180l/hr of fuel, the 984 is rated at 165l/hr at 5 bar. Its prob close to what we need at near on 4bar but being a second hand pump that was pulled from an old merc I doubt its still pumping like new.

Had 8 passes in 35deg heat and ran 10.25-10.33 all day - 10.25 was with no alternator and two 10.33's were with the new leads. The rest were all 10.27.
